5 Years ago today J. Cole released this legendary album “Born Sinner”. What made this release so special was that it wasn’t meant to be released until a week later. But Kanye was dropping “Yeezus” on 6/18 and Cole refused to drop his 2nd album in the shadow of a musical giant like Ye. So he did what many artists (especially upcoming ones like him) rarely do and pushed his release date a week up to go toe-to-toe with Kanye, even though Cole was nearly not as big. It was said that Cole wouldn’t even come close to Kanye’s sales let alone beat it. However, the media forgot one thing, the gravity of Coles loyal fan base. Although in its first week “Born Sinner” didn’t end up beating “Yeezus”, it came pretty damn close. “Yeezus”, in its first week moved 327,000 copies where as “Born Sinner” went on to sell 297,000 in its first week!
